Joe Niehaus

Mr. Niehaus is a managing director at Housatonic Partners.  Mr. Niehaus was a Managing Director at Hellman & Friedman before joining Housatonic Partners in 2001. During his twelve-year career at Hellman & Friedman, he was involved in several of the firm's recurring services, media and communications investments including Eller Media, Falcon Cable, and Mitchell International. Earlier in his career, Mr. Niehaus was employed in the Merchant Banking and Mergers and Acquisitions departments at Morgan Stanley & Co.

Mr. Niehaus is a graduate of Dartmouth College and the Harvard Business School. He is a Director of Aircraft Fasteners International, LLC; California Communications, LLC; Continental Fire & Safety Services, LLC; Convergent Broadcasting, LLC; HemaSource, Inc.; ResponseLink, LLC and South Florida Media Group, LLC.

Jim Ellis

Mr. Ellis is a Lecturer in Management at the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University.   Prior to coming to Stanford, Mr. Ellis held a number of positions with both large and small companies. In 1995, Mr. Ellis cofounded Asurion with Kevin Taweel to provide value-added solutions for the wireless communications industry. Previously responsible for Asurion’s sales and marketing efforts, Mr. Ellis is an active member of the company’s board of directors. 

Mr. Ellis has also held positions as a research associate at the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University and as a consultant with IMG and Cresap, McCormick, and Paget. He is a member of a number of Boards of Directors including BUILD, Asurion, Service Source Inc., Memento Press, Half Moon Bay Brewing Company, and Southern California Risk Management Associates. 

Mr. Ellis holds an MBA from Stanford University and a bachelor’s degree with high honors in economics from Dartmouth College. He is also a recipient of Ernst and Young’s prestigious Entrepreneur of the Year award.

Gerald Risk

Gerald Risk serves as Vice Chairman of Asurion, the world’s largest provider of technology protection services.  Asurion partners with leading mobile operators and retailers to provide services to over 250 million consumers globally.  Prior to serving as Vice Chairman, he served as Asurion’s President from 2009 to 2013 and as Asurion’s Chief Financial Officer for the 10 years prior to that.  Gerald began his professional career as an investment banker with Goldman, Sachs & Co. in San Francisco, Hong Kong and New York.   

In addition to his role at Asurion, Gerald is an active investor and mentor of entrepreneurial leaders in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors.  In this capacity, he currently serves on the Board of Directors of Carillon Assisted Living (provider of assisted living services in the Southeast), Sunrun (provider of residential solar services), and QMC Telecom (wireless infrastructure provider in Latin America).  Gerald has also been a guest lecturer in entrepreneurship at Stanford’s GSB and IESE.  

Gerald holds an MBA from the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University, where he was an Arjay Miller Scholar and where he served as a case writer for Jack McDonald, the Stanford Investors Professor of Finance.  He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Commerce with honors from Queen’s University in Canada where he was on the Dean’s List. 

Will Thorndike

Mr. Thorndike founded Housatonic Partners in Boston in 1994 and has been Managing Director since that time.  Prior to that, Mr. Thorndike worked with T. Rowe Price Associates where he did investment research in the nascent field of business services and Walker & Company where he was named to the Board of Directors.  

He is a Director of Access Information Management; Alta Colleges; Continental Fire & Safety Services, LLC, Carillon Assisted Living, LLC; Liberty Towers, LLC; OASIS Group Ltd.; QMC International, LLC; White Flower Farm, Inc., a Trustee of Stanford Business School Trust, the College of the Atlantic (Chair) and a founding partner at FARM, a social impact investing fund/collaborative. He is the author of The Outsiders.

Mr. Thorndike is a graduate of Harvard College and the Stanford Graduate School of Business.  

James Joy

Mr. Joy is the co-founder and managing director of Summit, a tax and accounting service company.  Mr. Joy's experience comes from a marketing, strategic and operational background. Previously, he worked at Verizon Communications and XM Satellite Radio in business and brand development roles. At Verizon and XM, James led his team to exceed targets by leveraging talent and leadership abilities. James has a keen eye for strategic options and ability to find solutions for client needs.  

James has a MBA from Mercy College and received his BBA from Fordham University. He also founded the MBA Alumni Network at Mercy College. 

Bill Egan

Mr. Egan is founder and General Partner of Alta Communications and Marion Equity Partners LLC, Massachusetts-based venture capital firms.  He founded Alta’s predecessor firm, Burr, Egan, Deleage & Co. in 1979, and has identified and backed several of America’s leading growth companies in the information technology, life sciences, and communications industries

Prior to founding Burr, Egan, Deleage & Co., Bill was a Partner at TA Associates.  He began his career as a Manager of Venture Capital for New England Enterprise Capital Corporation.  He is past President and Chairman of the National Venture Capital Association, a former Trustee of Fairfield University, a member of the Board of Overseers of The Wharton School and a Trustee of the University of Pennsylvania.

He is a member of the Board of Directors of Cephalon, Inc., CRH plc, and a number of privately held companies.  Bill received a degree in Economics from Fairfield University and an MBA from The Wharton School.

PJ Nora

Mr. Nora co-founded KCA Partners in 1993. PJ worked with former colleagues in the media industry to identify and acquire a troubled unit of a public parent, resulting in KCA's first platform acquisition. Later, PJ worked to create the Engineered Plastics platform, first acquiring Trico Plastics from its founders, and then structuring a buyout of both the equity and inter-partner debt in US Thermoplastics. Working with the management of KCA's portfolio company Apex Medical, PJ led the team that acquired Carex, a Newell Rubbermaid divestiture. He also took an active role in the wind down of Carex's Mexican affiliate including substantial negotiations with Carex's Mexican workers union, as the manufacturing was moved out of Mexico. In the building of Van's International Foods, Mr. Nora worked closely with management to finance and execute its operational strategy, building a new factory running state-of-the-art customized ovens and freezers, dramatically reducing costs. Mr. Nora sits on the boards of all KCA portfolio companies, focusing on strategy development, finance and acquisitions. 

Prior to founding KCA, Mr. Nora was a founding member of one of Wall Street's preeminent restructuring groups. At Smith Barney Shearson and previously with Drexel Burnham Lambert, he structured and negotiated transactions including exchange offers, pre-packaged bankruptcies and specialized M & A. Previously, Mr. Nora was a senior consultant with Arthur Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) developing strategic information systems. 

Mr. Nora holds an M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School and a bachelor's degree in Human Biology from Stanford University.

Jim Perry

Mr. Perry is a Managing Director on the Madison Dearborn Partners Telecom, Media & Technology Services team. Prior to co-founding MDP, Mr. Perry was with First Chicago Venture Capital for eight years. Previously, he was with The First National Bank of Chicago. Mr. Perry currently serves on the Boards of Directors of Asurion Corporation, QuickPlay Media, Inc., Sorenson Communications Holdings, LLC, T-Mobile USA, Inc., The Topps Company, Inc., Univision Communications Inc., and Chicago Public Media. 

He holds a BA from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from the University of Chicago.

Ted McCarthy

Mr. McCarthy has been an owner/operator of private companies since 1982. He is currently the owner, Chairman and CEO of Sensorex, a Southern California manufacturer of sensors used to measure water quality. Sensorex is a global provider of sensors to instrument manufacturers, distributors, catalogs and end users. Prior to purchasing a company, Mr. McCarthy worked for Citibank's consumer business in New York, Sydney, Australia and Los Angeles. He has served on the boards of several private companies and charitable organizations. 

Mr. McCarthy received a BSME from Villanova University and an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School.
